‘It Takes A Sincere Gentleman To Apologize’ - Dr. Otchere-Ankrah Hails Finance Minister

Governance Analyst, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah has applauded Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam for apologizing to Ghanaians over the economic hardships resulting from the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).

The Minister, addressing a town hall meeting in Accra on Tuesday, August 6, said; “We decided to restructure our debts because it was one of the requirements by the IMF. We started with the domestic debt exchange programme, the domestic debt exchange programme was very successful, achieving 95 percent participation. On this note, I would like to appeal to the people of this country to forgive us."

He continued; “It is never the intention of any government to impose hardships on its people, more so the NPP government that has demonstrated that we want to reduce the burden of the Ghanaian people.”

Dr. Amin Adam therefore asked the citizenry to forgive the government.

“This is why I want to appeal to you to forgive us but also to thank you on behalf of the president for the sacrifices, for the efforts that you all have made to participate in the DDEP,” he stated.

Contributing to Thursday’s 'Kokrokoo' show on Peace FM, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah was delighted that the Minister has humbly rendered an apology for the economic pressures that the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme has visited upon Ghanaians.

He said “it takes a sincere gentleman to accept your fault and apologize”.

He however expected the Minister to also outline measures being undertaken by his Ministry to ameliorate the living conditions of the Ghanaian populace.
