The election of new executives for the University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) scheduled for today 8th September 2024 at the KNUST campus in Obuasi has been cancelled over the failure of USAG executives to print ballot papers for the polls.
Some student delegates who have arrived in Obuasi in the Ashanti region to cast their ballot say they have been shocked to realise that the outgoing executives who are supervising the election failed to print ballot papers and are now telling candidates of plans in place to print them today, a situation the police finds inconvenient considering the history of violence in student elections in the country.
Reports say the Police are in talks with the USAG executives and the team managing the polls to decide on rescheduling the elections since printing the ballot papers today will take the elections deep into the night if it were to go ahead.
The regional Police commander in an attempt to help resolve the issue agreed to a proposal by some members of the election management team to get the existing ballot papers embossed with the stamp of the electoral commission for authentication. Still, the effort was rejected by the head of the team Emmanuel Osei Karikari, who is popularly known as Karibrain.
The development has left the various candidates and their supporters disappointed and confused.
