Former Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency, Buaben Asamoa has alleged that Hopeson Adorye’s arrest is linked to his affiliation to the leader and founder of the Movement for Change, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s presidential ambitions.
According to the former Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party(NPP), who has crossed carpet to the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye has been a leading voice for the Movement for Change, hence, their deliberate attempt to silence him.
In a radio interview with Okay FM on Thursday, May 23, the legal practitioner revealed that, Hopeson Adorye’s arrest is a strategy adopted by the NPP government to shift focus from the content of the full SML report due to what he describes as, the rot, in the deal.
“We don’t have a problem with the police for arresting Hopeson but it should be done in the confines of the law. Hopeson was invited to have a conversation with the police. If it was just a conversation, he should have been allowed to go home, rather he was detained at Accra Central and later sent to the Ministries Police station following an order from above.
"How do you arrest someone without letting him know for what offence you are arresting him? Without any prior information, they decided to detain him because orders from above says so.”
“It is clear that, Hopeson Adorye was arrested in connection to Alan Kyerematen’s Presidential ambition. They are peeved because Hopeson is vociferous for his worldview about Alan Kyerematen’s Presidential candidature.
“It doesn’t make sense that someone says something in 2016 and referred to the fact that, he had informed the President of what he had gone to do in his favour. The President did not see anything wrong with that in 2016. How come he has a problem with it in 2024 when his own appointee stated on your sister station that, he knows where armed robbers and criminals are and he goes there to solicit for votes from them, but hasn’t been invited," Buaben Asamoa said.
He continued to state that, “I will continue to say that, Hopeson Adorye’s arrest is a deliberate attempt to cover up the slimy SML- report which has taken the President so long a time to release it. Take a good look at what is happening to SSNIT currently. There is corruption everywhere and the government is keen on using all the state apparatus to cover up their corrupt practices but it will not work on members of the Movement for Change”.
Around the hours of 12 noon on Wednesday, the former member of the NPP, Hopeson Adorye was said to have been invited buy the Police to help in investigations concerning his own statement made that he detonated a dynamite in the Volta region.
This statement created doubts in the minds of many Ghanaians since most Ghanaians wondered how it was done and the media did not get to hear of it to be reported to the general public.
Meanwhile, report gathered by Peacfmonline.com revealed that, Hopeson Adorye was given a Ghc 20,000 bail with two sureties.
