The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Dr. Idara Bassey, who was wanted in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman during a buttock enlargement procedure at a clinic in the Lekki Phase 1 area.
Last week on Tuesday, the nurse who administered an injection to the late Abiola—reportedly on Dr. Bassey’s orders—was arrested after the Maroko Police Division received a report at around 11:40 am from Abiola's driver.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the command, confirmed to Punch on September 3 that Dr. Bassey is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti.
Bassey had previously fled following Abiola's death during a buttock enlargement procedure at her clinic on August 26, 2024.
Abiola had left her home in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, in the Ibeju Lekki area, instructing her driver to take her to the clinic for the procedure.
After the nurse administered the injection, allegedly following Bassey's instructions, the driver reported to the police that Abiola lost consciousness and began gasping for breath.
Regarding potential charges against Bassey and the grounds for them, Hundeyin stated that answers would be provided “after the investigation.”
