Dafeamakpor's Mandamus Application: Case Takes Adjournment as Parties Request Time to File Responses.

The case in which the Memeber of Parliament for South Dayi, Nelson-Rockson Dafeamekpor is seeking the High Court to compel the Speaker of Parliament and the President to act on the anti-LGBTQ+ bill within 7 days has taken an adjournment to April 29.

The decision comes after both parties requested for a short adjournment.

When the case was called on Thursday, lawyers from the Attorney-General's office were expected to respond to the motion that was moved on April 9 on the point of law, however, a Principal State Attorney, George Tetteh Sackey infomed the court that, they have filed their affidavit in opposition to the motion.

Lawyer for Nelson-Rockson Dafeamekpor, Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo also informed the the court that they had just been served with the affidavit in opposition which they would need time to peruse in order to respond to it.

He also informed the court that, they have presented a letter written to the Presidency by the Clerk of Parliament enquiring which time is appropriate to present the anti-gay bill to the court and A-G's lawyers.

Reacting to the said letter, lawyers from the Attorney-General's office informed the court that, they have been advised by their superiors to seek adjournment to allow them to go through the letter and also respond.

The presiding Judge, Justice Ellen Lordina Serwaa Mireku after listening to both submissions adjourned the case to April 29 for continuation.

Reacting to court proceedings, Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo representing the South Dayi MP said, the adjournment will not affect their request for an expeditious trial.
