Over 6,000 Defectors From Alan Kyerematen's Movement Return To NPP

Approximately 6,000 young politicians across the country who had previously defected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change have announced their return to the NPP.

Led by former NPP parliamentary candidate aspirant for Adentan, Alfred Ababio Kumi, the group admitted that leaving the NPP was a mistake.

In a press conference held in Accra, Ababio Kumi publicly acknowledged their error and declared their renewed support for the NPP flagbearer.

“It has become evidently clear that we made a mistake; a mistake that we humbly admit and are ready to work to ensure that its dire effect is reversed or averted.

“Since the February 7, 2024, speech by the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, we have been asking ourselves questions that border on the future of this country and the very Ghana that we young people want,” citinewsroom.com quoted Ababio Kumi.

Meanwhile, the Nationwide Supporters of Alan Cash (NAWSAC) have strongly criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly attempting to bribe the youth to abandon their support for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change and join the NPP.

In a statement released on Monday, April 22, 2024, NAWSAC expressed concern over the NPP’s underhanded tactics and urged the youth not to be swayed by financial inducements.

The group’s convener, Luther-King Junior, emphasised that young people are disillusioned with the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their manipulative behaviour and are determined to stand by their convictions and support for Alan Kyerematen’s leadership.

"These attempts to bribe young people to abandon their support for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change and rejoin the NPP are unacceptable. Young people are not for sale, and we will not be swayed by such tactics," Luther-King Junior stated.

Ladies and Gentlemen, friends from the media, esteemed members of the New Patriotic Party, and fellow citizens,
Good afternoon,
Today, we stand before you humbled and reflective, driven by a deep commitment to our nation’s future. Several months ago, we, alongside other devoted members, transitioned to the Movement for Change, inspired by the leadership of Alan Kyeremateng.

However, this journey has granted us profound insights and a clearer understanding of the political landscape of Ghana, the vision and leadership styles of all the Presidential aspirants for the 2024 Elections. It has become evident that, we made a mistake. A mistake that we humbly admit and ready to work to ensure its dire effect on the country is averted.

Since the 7th February, 2024 speech by the Flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, we have been asking ourselves questions, questions that bothers on the future of this country and the Ghana we want to see for ourselves as young people. It has become unarguably clear, that amongst all the Political Leaders, Dr. Bawumia has so far been the one who has clearly articulated the Ghana story, where we have come from, what we have been able to achieve so far, the challenges therein, admitted to the shortfalls and most importantly has clearly communicated his Solutions to the challenges confronting us as a country. Even more inspiring is his ability to move the entire nation to visualize the Ghana he Dreams. His Bold Solutions as elaborated on in his speech enables every citizen to visualize the future he wants for all of us and it is one that as young people, we believes we want to be part of.

We believe that, our decision to leave the party and follow Alan Kyeremanteng was one that was based on our conviction to see a Ghana that is ready to embrace the world and prepare the youth to be competitive in the global space. That remains our overarching objective. It has become unarguably clear that, amongst all the leaders, Dr. Bawumia is the one who can lead this country to the realization of the objectives. He understands where we have come from, he understands what we need to do, he understands what has been done, he understands the shortfalls and he has a clear plan to move us into the future in spite of the obvious and unavoidable challenges.

As young people, our deep love for Ghana will not allow us to see this country on a reverse into the past and in order for us to realize of dream of seeing Ghana grow, we are left with no other choice than to rally behind that one leader in our time today, amongst the several of them, who has clarity of thoughts, committed to the Ghana dream, has a proven track record of delivering on what he has been assigned to and has the mindset of Problem solving. That leader without debate, is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the leader and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic party.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia needs the support and energy of every single young person in this country to succeed in the next elections and we call on every young person to to rally around this call.

The National Democratic Congress, under the flagbearership of former President John Mahama, presents a plan for our country that raises concerns as we approach the 2024 general elections; THE SCACRY ALTERNATIVE. Here are the reasons why we cannot entrust Ghana to former President Mahama:

1. He has nothing to lose. Should he win, his tenure will be his last, historically bringing with it certain risks. Moreover, we are not seeking a leader who requires a honeymoon period. The job demands immediate action.

2. He has been defeated twice by H.E. Nana Addo, which clearly shows he has lost the trust and confidence of many, especially the youth.

3. As of now, John Mahama does not have a clear, consistent policy for Ghana, which has shown inconsistency and a lack of depth in strategic planning for Ghana’s long-term prosperity. It is noteworthy that their so-called ’24-hour economy’ policy has not been well explained even among their own ranks.

In light of these reflections and realizations, we, along with my colleagues from all over, have decided to fully return to the New Patriotic Party under the leadership of Flagbearer H.E. Dr. Bawumia, who has demonstrated time and again that with the spirit of humility and unity, it is possible to advance Ghana and that “Breaking the 8” is a national assignment we must all embrace.

Ladies and Gentlemen, friends from the media,

WE HAVE FULLY RETURNED HOME, not just to return, but to work.

Our nation stands on the verge of a pivotal election. As a young politician, I recognize the immense responsibility we carry to ensure governance is not only effective but also genuinely reflective of the aspirations of all Ghanaians. This era is futuristic, which is why we believe in the ‘Bold Solutions’ policy of Dr.  Bawumia, leveraging digitalization to build the Ghana we need.

We return not just as members, but as advocates with a rejuvenated focus on cohesive policy-making, transparency, and the vigorous pursuit of an agenda that places Ghana’s stability and prosperity at the forefront. Our dedication to the party’s ideology is unwavering.

Let this moment be a turning point, not just for us as returning members but for the New Patriotic Party as a whole. Together, let’s renew our commitment to the principles that have always defined us: “Development in Freedom: A Legacy in Making Our Nation Great & Strong.”

Thank you, and may God bless our endeavors, our dear Party the NPP, and our beloved country, Ghana.
